Turn a destination into a calmer plan.
A browser-only planner that turns a start point, a destination, a travel mode, and accessibility needs into a printable checklist. Use it to reduce uncertainty before you leave.
Tool introduction
What this tool does
The Accessible Trip Planner takes your starting point, destination, travel mode (walking, wheelchair, or public transport), and a set of accessibility needs (step-free route, elevator, accessible restroom, accessible entrance) and generates a simple checklist. The checklist lists each need as an item to confirm, plus a reminder to note a rest point and a backup option. The result can be read on screen and copied for printing or sharing.
Why a checklist helps
Accessible travel is easier when assumptions are replaced by specific questions. Instead of trusting that a place is "accessible," the checklist prompts you to confirm each detail — step-free entry, elevator availability, restroom access, and entrance type — before you go. Writing it down turns a vague hope into a plan you can verify and adapt.
A starting point for verification
The generated checklist is not a guarantee that the route is accessible. It is a list of questions to answer by contacting providers, checking maps, and asking staff. Treat each item as a task to confirm, not as a fact. Build in time for a backup plan in case an elevator is out of service or an entrance is blocked.
How to use
- 01
Enter your starting point
Type the name or address of where you are leaving from in the "Start" field. This could be a home address, a hotel, or a transit stop.
- 02
Enter your destination
Type the name or address of where you are going in the "Destination" field. This could be a venue, a park, an appointment, or a meeting place.
- 03
Choose your travel mode
Select Walking, Wheelchair, or Public transport. This helps you think about the kind of route and assistance you may need. For example, public transport may require checking elevator status at stations, while a wheelchair route may need step-free paths and curb cuts.
- 04
Select your accessibility needs
Check the boxes for the needs you want to confirm along the route: Step-free route, Elevator, Accessible restroom, and Accessible entrance. You can check all that apply.
- 05
Generate the checklist
Click "Create my checklist." The planner displays a checklist with your route, travel mode, and each selected need as an item to confirm. It also adds a reminder to note a rest point and a backup option.
- 06
Verify and adapt
Use the checklist to contact venues, check transit maps, and ask staff about each item. Write down the answers and allow time for a backup plan. If an item cannot be confirmed, plan an alternative route or destination.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool find accessible routes for me?
No. The planner does not search maps or route data. It helps you organise your own research into a checklist. You still need to contact venues, check transit information, and verify each item yourself.
Can I save or print the checklist?
The checklist appears on screen. You can copy the text into a note app, email it to yourself, or take a screenshot. The tool does not store the checklist on a server — if you close the page, it is gone.
What if I am not sure which travel mode to choose?
Choose the mode you expect to use most. If your trip involves multiple modes (e.g., wheelchair to a bus stop, then public transport), plan each leg separately with its own checklist.
Why does the checklist add a rest point and a backup option?
Accessible travel is more manageable when the plan includes time for rest and a fallback. A rest point gives you a place to pause if fatigue or weather changes things. A backup option (a nearby accessible café, a changeable booking, or an alternative route) reduces stress if something does not go as planned.
Can I use this for a multi-stop trip?
Yes. Create a separate checklist for each leg of the trip. For example, home → station, station → venue, venue → restaurant. This helps you verify each part of the journey individually.
Is my trip information private?
Yes. Everything runs in your browser. Your start point, destination, and preferences are not uploaded or stored anywhere. If you close the page, the information is lost.
